Responsible AI

AI can organize information. People remain responsible for consequential decisions.

LCE uses AI-assisted tools to improve access to information, translation, orientation, and document explanation while preserving clear human-review boundaries.

What the AI tools can do

Ask LCE can organize general questions, explain program areas, support business and research education, and identify when a human navigator should take over. Secure Document Review can summarize visible content in supported documents and identify dates, requested actions, and questions a user may want to ask.

What the AI tools do not do

The tools do not provide legal representation, medical diagnosis, tax advice, immigration determinations, benefits eligibility decisions, emergency response, guaranteed funding outcomes, or political endorsements. AI-generated information may be incomplete or incorrect.

Human review

High-stakes, ambiguous, sensitive, or consequential questions should be reviewed by an appropriate human professional or LCE staff member. The website is designed to make this handoff explicit rather than presenting AI output as a final decision.

Translation

Automated translation is provided as an access tool. Machine translation may miss nuance, legal meaning, dialect, or cultural context. For important documents or decisions, request human language support.

Data minimization

Users should not enter passwords, Social Security numbers, complete financial credentials, or other unnecessary sensitive identifiers into Ask LCE. Uploaded documents should be limited to material the user is authorized to share. AI API requests are configured with store:false in this implementation.
